Aside from the obvious fact that it makes sense to retrofit buildings to be more energy efficient for a plethora of reasons, there are tax incentives that make the proposition even more attractive.
This blog addresses the common questions, such as:
What are the incentives? Where can I find the pertinent information? What is required to achieve the incentives?
For Nevada, there is the Property Tax Abatement for Green Buildings, which applies to Commercial, Industrial, Multi-Family Residential sectors. The incentive is active at this time.
Eligible Technologies include Comprehensive Measures/Whole Building, Passive Solar Space Heat, Solar Water Heat, Photovoltaics, Landfill Gas, Wind, Biomass, Geothermal Electric, Daylighting, Anaerobic Digestion, Small Hydroelectric

"The Nevada State Office of Energy is pleased to announce that after consulting with the US Green Building Council, NSOE Director Groth has decided that we will be accepting EB O&M LEED project registrations for partial property tax abatement. Since the change from EB to EB O&M does not include the introduction of a new rating system, there is no requirement to wait two years prior to adoption."
